Lohkare Sauna – Kurula Resort

So far, the only Lohkare by Tingander sauna bench made for a public space serves as the eye-catching centerpiece of the beautiful Kurula’s Resort lakeside sauna. The setting for relaxation is perfect — located at the foot of Pyhätunturi, on the shore of Lake Pyhäjärvi. The benches are the work of designer and carpenter Eetu Tingander.

“For the heart of the sauna, I chose the Tulikivi Tuisku XL electric heater, for several reasons. The stove has plenty of power, well-balanced proportions, and 300 kilograms of rock-solid beauty. However, the main reason I chose Tulikivi is its structure, which allows the bench to be designed around the stove without compromises. The shape of the bench can safely step around the side of the stove with only a small safety distance. The stove doesn’t limit creative design — yet it delivers powerful steam.”

“The design of the bench — In a landscape adorned with northern lights and amethysts, the form draws inspiration from nature. The bench is an abstract artwork that finds warmth in brutalism and abundance in minimalism. And of course — the best place to enjoy art together is the sauna.”

The bench is the fifth piece in the Lohkare by Tingander product series, where art and utility intertwine. Each work in the Lohkare series is the creation of artist and master carpenter Eetu Tingander — a meeting of craftsmanship, nature, and thought.

The lighting was designed to prevent any reflections on the sauna’s large panorama window — ensuring an unobstructed view of Lake Pyhäjärvi and the surrounding fells. Steam can be released onto the sauna stones at the touch of a button, thanks to the sauna’s automated system.
